watermelon tonight

Well I tried to bring you flowers
But the shop closed some three past hours
And I don’t know what to do
I said I can make your dreams come true
But only for a minute or two
You said stop wasting time and get the door
Set foot on the street at half past two
And passed the streetlights going through
The islands of light in the sky-black sea
Don’t you laugh like the wind? I said
Don’t you know you got a funny lookin’ head?
She said with smile and laughed for a while
And all was right in the corner of the world tonight
Bought a seedless watermelon at a place open all night
And just laughed for a while and held on tight
In that perfect circle of one streetlight
Eating watermelon in the park tonight
“So was this your dream?”
“So it would seem
‘cause it’s what’s true tonight”
Got her back home as the sun reached up
To meet the rose tinged sky
And somehow all dreams seem to die
When the night reaches its end
But until it does this life’s right now
So just hold on tight
And enjoy the watermelon tonight
